Didn’t know you played guitar so prob know most of what I just said already.

If its Rockabilly stuff you want to learn I would start with simple 1 5 bass lines playing along to stuff like Elvis Sun stuff tho watch out for Bill Blacks timing on some numbers as its off and can throw you a bit.

Let me know how u go and hope to catch ya at a rockin night soon.

Carry on up the board marking the notes with tape as you go. You can write the notes on tape to remind yourself.

Do you know how most rockin songs are structured ie the 12 bar blues progressions?

If you want to meet up sometime can show you some stuff on bass lines and slapping or can go through it on here once I know how much you know.

Hi Mike yes think I have met you and Debs my wife knows you.

Not sure how much you know, do you know how to set up bass? tune it etc? If you already play guitar or have some musical knowledge would help.

I would get a CHROMATIC tuner if you don’t have one already, it will help in finding the notes on fingerboard.

To make sure the bridge is set up correctly check it is sitting in centre of bass and in line with the little notches on inside of f holes. Also that it is sitting at right angles to bass and not leaning over.

Get your tuner and tune bass to E A D G starting from thickest to thinnest strings.

As a beginner I would get some masking tape and mark the notes on board.

If you play the E string and pluck string with finger just below nut(top) and slide your finger up till tuner reads F then place strip of tape about width of your finger at right angles across board at the position you found the F. Now when you play the A string at same position you should get an A#, on d string a D# and G string a G# providing the bridge is set up correctly.

The notes should read up to twelfth position are as follows:

    G string G G# A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G
    D string D D# E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D
    A string A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A
    E string E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E
