I have been working on some 12 bars lately and was pointed in the direction of practicing with swing beats. The timing on the turn arounds is screwing me up pretty bad though.

I have nothing to practice with is my problem, I am trying to make a swing drum beat in fruit loops but not really sure what to go with.

For most practicing I just make a pretty basic drum track like kick on the 1 and 3, snare on the 2 and 4, and the hi hat doing 1/8th notes through the whole thing.

What would work to program in for a simple swing beat?

how does the beat even work is it like 1/4 note then 2 1/8th notes?

The easiest way is to set metronome just on 2 and 4. That way you’ll hear the accents and that should help you getting the swing feel.

Other way is to find already prepared swing loop and play with it.

Try not to practice too much with a metronome. Don’t forget that you should be the one that everyone else should rely to.
