I’m playing an Engelhardt EM-1 with “home-made” alcoholic varnish that sounds better. You can find all informations in the “interviews” section : https://www.artofslapbass.com/artofslapbass/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11:nicolas-dubouchet&catid=1:interview&Itemid=3

    Hey Benwardo,
can’t help you with your K&K problem ! but if your G string sounds good you should hear it with your pick-up and amp.
Yes, silver or psychoslaps match good with gut but you have to wait a couple of month before they loose their brightness.

    Thank you very much Djordje,
We are working with a clarinetist these days.Hey !that’s again my poor english ! I meant I like also the “second” Django’s bassist named Emmanuel Soudieux that you can hear on ”
Swing dynamique “.Louis Vola was surely the first !(we say HCF ;)) but Django played also with Roger Grasset, Emmanuel Soudieux or Tony Rovira.
You can find “Swing dynamique” on musicme for instance.

Oooh ! thank you very much.
Perhaps that’s because I haven’t followed the “classical rockabilly stream” ! or because I grew up between Balkan & America, in the wine-land (and wine-town : Bordeaux) ! More seriously : i love the simple way Louis Vola (and the second Django’s bassist) and Slam Stewart played. You have to hear “Swing Dynamyc” from Django. For slap technic : I try everything I got in my brain.

In this video you can see the color of the strings and be sure that it is not gut ! weedwacker strings are able to sound pretty good.

Check out “Dark eyes” on my page ( http://www.myspace.com/dubouch )I play with weed wackers too.
