    Hi all,

Found this site through surfing rockabilly videos on youtube.
Then I saw Nicolas’ video. Great stuff!
During the 80’s rockabilly revival I loved the sound of the Razorbacks. (the original Canadian band)I happened to mention to a music store owner I would like to try a standup bass, and he said he knew a guy……………..
I ended up buying a Framus with a cracked neck and a small hole in the soundboard for $275. Fixed the neck and patched the hole and started thumping away.Strings are old gut, E and A wire-wound but need replaced. Got a coat-hanger anchoring the tailpiece, and the soundpost fell sometimes, but I had fun. Been a few years since I messed with it, but want to get into it again. New strings will be a good start………….

    Regards,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
thanks for your comment and welcome on the board.
$275 is a good deal for this Framus even if she needs any repairing.
Strings depend of what style you wanna play.
I will post a topic about the new strings I’m playing in next few weeks. They are pretty good for both slap & pizz.
    Nicolas.

    Merci Nicolas,
The neck repair was with epoxy. I re-attached the fingerboard with white glue. The soundboard repair is “temporary” to get the sound back. I hope to re-do it with veneer and get a better match.
Practicing on the old gut as we speak…..
